About Me

I'm Dawsie's Aunty Kate.

We loved to build things together & make pieces fit.  K-NEX was our true love, but Lego was a very close second!!  We enjoyed building things.  We shared a love of reading, and would discuss the plots of the books that we were currently reading.  His books were about a wimpy kid, my books were about a mystery.  His books made us both laugh ... my books made us both think who dit it!!  It really didn't matter, we would make jokes about whatever the other one was reading!!

He was such a special little soul, who appreciated each day & found joy in every moment.  I always looked forward to seeing him & to share in the special joy that he found in everything new.  I'll never forget the hornet's nest on one of our grain bins.  Although he was afraid of being stung, (or worse ... his little brother Alex being stung) he was also concerned if the hornets inside would suffer, once Uncle Don had to spray the can on them to get rid of them.  He had such a strong appreciation of all God's living creations.  So amazing in one so young.  He reminded me of ME, when I was his age.  Unfortunately, I'm still here, but he is not. Why? It's not fair.

I had so many plans for my nephew & I. He was just at that age, that he could leave home for a week-end & come out to the farm. We woulda had such a great time together!  I was thrilled watching him grow up ...  & looking forward to witness the man that he would have become. So be it ... I'm thankful now, for every moment I got to spend with Dawsie.  He taught me more in 3 years, than I've  learned in my entire life!!

Patience, Kindness, Smile ... Be Joyful!

My wish is to put an end to the suffering that families endure after losing a child.  I recognise that is just a fantasy.  That will never happen ... another child is dying as I type this note ...

BUT perhaps we can help in some small way.   We need a hospital in Saskatchewan, designed for children; it needs to be staffed with Pediatricians & Nurses & Technicians that recognise the special needs of a child.

Please help with your donation.  Our world gets smaller every day ...The loss of a child has touched the Ellert Family three times ... Julie (age 17;1996), Alyssa (age 5; 1995), Dawson (age 8; 2010).  My heart knows that a loss of a child has touched your life as well.

About Me

I have been very fortunate to have Carla, Mike and Alex in my life and I treasure each and every day.  I miss Alyssa and Dawson......they were wonderful children.  I was so glad that I was able to meet them before they went "home".  I am Carla's birth mom and am so proud of my daughter (and the rest of the Ellert/Phillips families) for being who they are.  Thanks.
