Skate4Smiles in Memory of Dawson Ellert

Skate4Smiles 2012 was a huge success . . .

I wonder if Skate4Smiles 2012 can do better than it did in 2011 . . .

Oh boy, did it ever . . .

In 2011, Skate4Smiles raised an amazing $37,000 for the Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskachewan.  At that time, it was beyond our wildest hopes that the event could be that successful.  The support we received was truly awe-inspiring.

As much as we hoped Skate4Smiles could be just as successful this year, that was a big number to meet.  Almost a week later, it's still difficult to believe YOU didn't just match last year's record - but smashed it.

Skate4Smiles 2012 raised an incredible $60,000 on March 25th.

Including the $4,500 raised by the students at Greenall High School in Balgonie, you kids brought in almost $36,000 in pledges alone.  How amazing is that?  We were also fortunate to have great support from our business sponsors, personal donations, and a generous contribution from the Shooting Stars Foundation.

On behalf of Carla, Mike, and Alex and the Children's Hospital Foundation, we thank you.  We are so touched and so grateful for your support.

There were so many times in Dawson's life where he'd be so excited, he'd be speachless.  Maybe it was from a toy we bought him, or a Christmas morning, maybe it was a wonder of nature he saw, maybe just an incredible day he had.  He didn't need to speak for us to know how happy he was.  He could feel extreme joy, yet feel humbled by his good fortune at the same time.  We know he's feeling that way right now.

We hope you all enjoyed your time and took part in all the activities.  We want you back next year and hopefully, we'll have more great prizes to give away to our participants.  You deserve it.

Our prize winners for 2012 were:

Highest pledge amount - Mack Klyne won an iPad2

Highest number of pledges - Piper Pekrul won an iPod Touch

Nintendo 3Ds draw - Megan Kosar

iPod Touch draw - Carter Nowoselski

Without our pledge earners, Skate4Smiles wouldn't be the successful event that it is.  This year, we had some great prizes donated and wanted to give back to those that make our event truly awesome.

Second highest pledge amount - Jack Fischer won a signed Mark McMorris snowboard.

Third highest pledge amount - Jordan and Sam Engstrom won a Trek bicycle.

Check out the Photo Gallery for a few pictures of this year's event.

We always hope that no child will ever need to stay in the new Children's Hospital but the reality is, there will be a need.  Your hard work and commitment will help the Children's Hospital be the BEST EVER and make hospital stays a better, healthier experience for children and their families.

Remember:  be good to your friends, love your family, and whenever you can, brighten the world with your smile....
